“First We Were Loved” develops our relationship with God in contemplative prayer.

Why begin with “First We Were Loved”? Knowing and receiving our belovedness is one of the hardest works in becoming fully alive.  Whether you are just exploring the early stages of prayer and faith or if you have known God for many years, it is likely that your belovedness is something longed for but not yet the place from which you engage God, others, or even yourself.  There are many reasons for this, but chief among them is our commitment to conditional love.  Like a frog in a pot, we don’t realize that the waters of conditional love we swim in are not life giving, but are actually killing our ability to live.  But long before conditional love began shrinking the hearts of the world, Perfect Love created our hearts unconditionally.  Long before you (or others) began to know yourself as ________(insert label), Perfect Love knew you, and knows you still today, as “Beloved” as “My child”.   This right relationship is the foundation from which our prayer, our lives, must flow.

What to Expect:

• There are 5 sessions (ZOOM, In-person, or Hybrid) that can be held weekly or depending on what works best for your schedule (but at least a week apart).
• You will be provided with a binder containing the course material.
• Between meetings you are invited to:
  • Establish a rhythm of prayer & contemplation (perhaps 15 minutes 2-3 days per week) that fits for your life world
  •  Journal a few minutes on what you noticed during that time of prayer
• Weekly meetings will focus on:
  • Ignatian spirituality of God’s love and an introduction on contemplative practices
  • An opportunity to review your sense of God’s love in prayer and everyday life since our last meeting
