Introduction to Lectio Divina (Listening Prayer)
Offered In-Person @ The Layne, Thursday, October 1, 2026 7:00 PM - 8:30 PMPrayer can be hard. It can be vulnerable. Many of us experience prayer as empty, rote, and alienating.
Intuitively we want prayer to be inviting, relational, open and curious. If we are spending time with the Divine, we hope to encounter the Divine. Most of all, we want to hear from the Divine. We want to hear and know that our prayers are heard. That we are known.
Lectio Divina (Sacred Reading) is an ancient prayer practice that opens us to what God could be wanting us to know – about God’s self, our own self, and the world around us. Lectio Divina opens our prayer time up to relationship with God as God’s beloved.
Most of us, however, have not been formed in this type of prayer. Most of us have been formed in ways of prayer that have left us feeling distant from God, unheard, and foolish. We have practiced experiencing God as silent or indifferent.
Join us as we explore together this new, yet ancient, way of being with God and lean into the gifts of a loving, relational God.
